If you’re celebrating Passover in your local synagogue, school, or even at home, a great way to spread the word and get the community involved is to create a poster that encapsulates everything good about the holiday.

This is one of the biggest occasions for the Jewish community. For children especially, it is a chance for them to learn about their ancestors’ liberation from slavery and get them closer to the scripture – without actually sitting them down and lecturing them about it!

You can even get the kids involved, utilizing the designing process to get them interested and engaged in the holiday before it has even begun. With this in mind, here are a few design ideas that immediately symbolize the holiday and its meaning:

Seder Plate

Seder Plate

One of the most immediately identifiable symbols of Passover has to be the seder plate. You will often find a beautiful silver seder plate on a Jewish dining table during this time, and each food upon it – roasted lamb shank, charoset, roasted egg, maror, chazeret, and karpas – is symbolic of an aspect of Passover. Whatsmore, it’s a fairly easy design to grab the attention of passersby!

Glass Of Wine

During a seder dinner, each adult drinks four cups of kosher wine, as it symbolizes the redemption of Israelites from captivity in Egypt. In this way, a simple glass of wine is a clear and identifiable symbol of the holiday itself. Just remember the grape juice – the kids will not want to feel left out, after all!

The Pyramids

Seeing as the story of Passover covers the escape of the Israelites from their Egyptian captives and the protection of God, having the pyramids as your poster centerpiece is a good way to identify the history of the holiday and the context that is celebrated.

This is also a good way to get the children involved, as you can explain the reasoning behind the pyramids and the story of Passover itself whilst you are designing.

The Lamb

As mentioned before, lamb is one of the foods which is eaten during the Passover meal. It is also recognized in the scripture as the blood used to mark homes during the final plague, and those who know the scripture will also know that John Baptist referred to Jesus as “the lamb of God”, who takes the sin of the world away. This means that it has great significance for the Jewish people during the holiday.

The Star Of David

Of course, if none of these symbols work for you, or if you would like to make a number of alternative posters, you can’t go wrong with the most iconic symbol of Judaism.

This is the Star of David, which was universally adopted by the Jewish people in the mid-19th century. In Jewish tradition, the star is worn to symbolize God’s protection, with the six points designed to ward off evil spirits and shield those around them. It is easily recognizable and would fit perfectly on any Passover poster design!
