ired of Boring Neutrals? Try these cosy grey living room ideas suggested by EXPERTS!!
Gray can be the warm, comforting backdrop you were waiting for. I tried a few cosy grey living room ideas that turned out so pretty.
Most of the young couples face the problem of snug spaces. These cosy grey living room ideas can suit them well. Anyways, most people are in boho neutrals these days.
A cosy grey interior is the best they can ask for. But many people don’t feel comfortable around grey. They think grey is a grim and cold outlay for a space like our living room.
Indeed, solid or nude grey is not the shade I’d associate with comfort and coziness. But, with proper hues, accents, and contrasts, grey can stand out like no other color.
Dream Reboot for cosy spaces
Why do cosy rooms feed upon hype nowadays? Well, there are two reasons. Firstly, most apartments have small rooms. So, you rarely have any other option than cosy interiors.
At the same time, more than 30 million young adults live in 21.8 million single apartments in the US.
It speaks volumes about why we need cosy room ideas. But how can we associate grey with cosy decor? Already I have been asked this question by 20 people. Let me answer them now.
Grey stands TALL!!
Grey is a bland color. But it is also one color that complements a metallic hue like no other color. Experts also believe that grey is a versatile color. McClain says- it’s a true chameleon. And rightly so.
You can complement any interior design with grey. Even texture and accents go OK with grey. I know some people still need clarification about the ability of greys to blend with finesse. I can discuss some actual design ideas for cosy rooms with grey.
Cosy grey living room ideas you didn’t know before
You may be a “grey person” or willing to try it. But I’m sure you will not fall out of love with these classic and beautiful living room ideas:
1. 50 Shades of Grey
Can’t decide which shade of grey will suit you the best? Don’t worry. Grey is a versatile color that goes well with any proportion, mapping, and layout. But what would be best is layering greys from your walls to furniture and from your rugs to walls again.
- For walls, I prefer the light grey option
- If you want to continue the shade, get a metallic dark grey sofa
- For rugs, an ash grey would be the best option
- For fluffy rugs, the smoke, graphite, or Dove grey would be ideal
- I would suggest grey picture frames and minimal grey accessories, too
- Greystone wash accessories would seem significant as well.
2. Batman’s Metallic Grey
Don’t get vibing over DC. I just wanted to be precise about the color I’m talking about. If you can add just a few metallic grey hues to a small room, it would look exquisite.
Start with your rugs. A silky satin grey rug is the poshest decor I could have requested. For small living room ideas, I’d go with a 9×6 rug. It costs somewhere between $25 to $75.
Another grey that I love is the velvety grey. You can easily buy such grey cushions and pillows with covers from Target. A set of 6 pieces costs no more than $35.
At last, comes the showstopper! Chrome Grey. I recommend this color for the tables. Most importantly, teal and chromium greys add a very refined texture.
Firstly, you can add chrome greys to coffee table tops. Secondly, it would also be an acceptable color for the photo frames.
I’ve seen metallic greys always add a luxe feel and a subtle lift to the cosy living room. But there’s something you know. You need to stick to one shade of metallic grey for the best results. Don’t smother with teal, grey, iron-rod grey, and steel grey now and then.
Instead, pick the metallic grey with the best hue. You can test all shades against the current lighting in your room. Then choose the one that is best for you.
3. Textures go well grey
Your room will look messy if you don’t get your textures right. I want you to be picky while selecting an excellent grey shade(s) for your textured living room wall decor ideas.
But remember that there are better options than the metallic aura for wall textures. Instead, you would love the rustic grey more. Anyways, rustic living room ideas are becoming popular in the US. So, catch the cue and paint a rustic texture with one or multiple patterns.
4. Grey is not a loner
If you are going with grey, you need hues and accents to go with it, too. But do you know which color complements grey the best? My POV is that the jewel tone is the best thing to happen to a grey wall.
A jewel tone comes with a cosy and mushy feel. But it also delivers elegance that you can’t ignore! However, you can’t define the features of a jewel tone so easily. It has a core warmth that levels up to the saturation limit.
Colors that complement grey well
With grey walls, I would bleakly suggest grey furniture. Instead, I would prefer other living room color ideas with a better hue when mixed with grey. For example, blue. Let’s imagine a decor idea with both colors.
The room has matte grey accent walls with macrame floors. They are nude caddies for flaunting accent stuff. For example, there are white vases, a glossy Madonna poster, and a Chaplin picture frame.
But the showstopper is something else. It is a royal blue plush sofa. It is an L-shaped, signature heavy padded sofa. The curving L sofa looks majestic in contrast with the grey walls.
On one hand, the color scheme is comforting and soothing. On the other hand, the room looks elegant, although it’s incredibly cosy.
Besides the blue sofa, the white-layered floor complements the grey. However, there is a sharp definition on the floor. It has a square popped-up section in the middle. That part has a slight beige gradient.
In the square’s center is a single-legged, shallow grey coffee table. The table has a blend of chrome grey and metallic grey colors.
Accents with grey- A Dream Combo
Accents mostly have a minimal use in your grey room. You can choose a warm rattan accent flower vase or a plant pod of the same color and texture. But a better accent will be a curved glossy metallic flowerpot.
The pot would adorn one of the corners of the room. The grey metallic pot on a goldenrod yellow stand adds a cleaner hue to the wall.
Sarah Montogomery shared the details with me. She had to say- “I was creating a moody and tonal hue in layers against the grey space. And I came up with this.”
Can grey look good except on the wall?
I even had this question beaming at me for a long time. But I finally discovered that grey can make its mark outside the walls, too. I will install a sunken rustic or charcoal grey sunken sofa for your dream decor. But there should be no statement furniture other than that sofa in that room.
The walls won’t have a tinge of grey. I am fathoming a white wall for this room, with two portraits in the most exposed parts of the walls.
It’s an out-and-out modern decor with grey. So, I expect a non-symmetric sunken table near the L-shaped sunken sofa here. Also, I want abstract patterns of confident strokes and twin-color punches (black and white or grey and black).
Go Bold, Go Grey
I hope these cosy grey living room ideas suit your appetite. Grey is indeed a statement color that makes a bold underline in any layout or decor. A classic grey monochromic design can’t fail you under any circumstance.
I have also seen grey rooms feel lighter and soothing. And it’s no surprise that people love grey interiors now more than ever. So, does the future look grey?
Indeed so. With time, we will explore more color combinations with grey. If you want a blog on grey boho decor, ping me in the comments below!!
