Summer Game Fest 2023: Top 10 Games That Were Announced
After watching the entire livestream of the Summer Game Fest 2023 on Thursday, 8th June, my jaw dropped to the ground in excitement. This event showcased trailers and revealed many new games that will come out this year and the next.
So in case you missed it, what were the biggest announcements this year that are worth being hyped for? Read this post till the end to find out!
Top 10 Games Revealed At Summer Game Fest 2023
If you are confused regarding what genre for a video game to choose, then there are many new ones revealed at the Summer Game Fest this year. The 10 game reveals from the Summer Game Fest 2023 that got me hyped the most are:
1. Final Fantasy Rebirth (Early 2024)
Final Fantasy 7 is widely hailed as one of the greatest old-school RPG games of all time, according to various facts about gaming in North America. With the original game released for the PlayStation 1 back in 1997, its 2020 remake did things differently.
Gone is the turn-based combat of the original, replaced with Tactical real-time action combat to cater to modern gamers. However, Square Enix decided to release the remake as a trilogy, with the first part being released in 2020 to critical and commercial success.
While the first game showed the opening act of the game based in the metropolis of Midgard, Rebirth takes place in various locations across Midgard. The Summer Game Fest 2023 trailer showed Cloud and his party of heroes traveling on Chocobos to explore various towns, with the return of Sephiroth looming over the horizon.
Plus – our favorite lion Red XIII will be joining this party as well. According to the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth trailer, it has a tentative release date of early 2024.
2. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (October 20, 2023)
Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018) and Spider-Man: Mile Morales (2020) were released to critical and commercial success by Insomniac Games for the PlayStation consoles, later being ported over to PC as well. Now, it’s time for Spider-Man 2 to grace us with the presence of the infamous Black Spiderman that we saw on Spiderman 3 with Tobey McGuire.
In the amazing gameplay reveal trailer, we see the stakes being doubled as the game features both our friendly neighborhood Spidermen, Peter Parker and Miles Morales (from Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse and Across the Spiderverse), teaming up together to take down an assortment of iconic Spiderman villains like Kraven the Hunter.
This PlayStation 5 exclusive revealed its official release date at the Summer Game Fest 2023 – 20th October 2023.
3. Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown (January 18, 2024)
The last time we saw our childhood Persian prince Dastan was in Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, released way back in 2010. Now, the series is back after 13 years (with a new hero Sargon) in this new side-scrolling action-platformer game, set to be released on 18th January 2024.
The Summer Game Fest 2023 trailer showed this game having a vibrant art style reminiscent of the early Prince of Persia games. While most fans of the series still clamor for the return of the charming Prince Dastaan, more will be revealed about this new prince soon.
4. Mortal Kombat 1 (September 19, 2023)
Everyone loves breaking ribs, dismembering limbs, and severing heads using Fatalities in Mortal Kombat. While its last entry was 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11, the series is going for a soft reboot this time.
This game’s Summer Game Fest 2023 trailer shows the combat remaining equally gory, with the addition of the assistance of other characters in the middle of a fight. Mortal Kombat 1 will release on 19th September 2019, allowing fans to get back to ripping out hearts and innards once more.
5. Alan Wake 2 (October 17, 2023)
One of the biggest surprises of Summer Game Fest 2023 was the reveal of Alan Wake 2.
This is a sequel to the acclaimed horror action game Alan Wake, released way back in 2010. The trailer shows the titular novelist being trapped in a dark and scary parallel world for 13 years (the exact time passed since the last game). Now you have to use your wits, the power of light, and your new friend Saga Anderson (an FBI agent) to escape this grim reality on 17th October 2023.
6. Like A Dragon: Gaiden – The Man Who Erased His Name (November 9, 2023)
The Yakuza games have a cult following, who are dedicated fans of hero Kazuma Kiryu. However, the spin-off series Like A Dragon, featuring a new hero Ichiban Kasuga has also been equally well-received by fans.
Like A Dragon: Gaiden – The Man Who Erased His Name brings everyone’s favorite baka mitai Kazuma back to the underworld. This title has a release date of 9th November 2023, according to its Summer Game Fest 2023 reveal.
7. John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando (2024)
John Carpenter has cemented his name in the world of cinema as one of the best supernatural movie directors, with movies like Halloween (1978), The Fog (1980), and Big Trouble In Little China (1986).
This time, he intended to bring his brand of darkness and the supernatural with Toxic Commando, a new horror supernatural first-person shooter developed by Saber Interactive and Focus Interactive.
If you want to mow down hordes of the undead with lots of guns, you must wait till 2024. The release date will be announced later this year, and the Summer Game Fest 2023 trailer makes the hype worth it.
8. Lies Of P (September 19, 2023)
Souls-like fans, rejoice! If you want to crave that itch for a Bloodborne sequel, you have to satisfy your bloodlust for now with Lies of P, set with a 19th September release date.
This game stars Pinocchio as the titular hero (who somewhat looks like Timothy Chalamet), taking down enemies and bosses in a Victorian setting overrun by darkness. A demo of the game is already available, where you can play its first two chapters, which feature three amazing boss fights and the brutally difficult souls-like action that turns us all into masochists.
9. Remnant 2 (July 25, 2023)
Gunfire Game’s Remnant: From The Ashes (2019) dared to do something unimaginable and considered impossible – provide a souls-like experience – with guns. The gaming community warmly received the first game, albeit it had a few rough edges to really be an amazing game.
However, Gunfire Games has decided to amp it up to 11 this time with Remnant 2. Featuring the same tough-as-nails gameplay with procedurally generated dungeons, this game seems to improve on its predecessor in every way, according to its Summer Game Fest 2023 trailer.
Featuring a new “plane of darkness” called Narude, you can head there with your friends in co-op mode from 25th July 2023.
10. Palworld (January 2024)
If you thought nothing could be as satisfying as capturing Pokemons and training them to level 100, then think again. Pocket Pair Inc. has announced Palworld, a game where you collect Pokemon-like monsters – and equip them with guns.
That’s right. Not only will you be able to capture monsters, you can equip them with different guns. This allows you to make them a cute but deadly force to be reckoned with. You can start catching them all from January 2024 next year. However, it will release in early-access mode, according to its Summer Game Fest 2023 teaser.
