Checkout Five Amazing Facts About Gaming in North America:

Facts About Gaming

Here we will look at things like the expected gaming revenue for 2022, the age groups in which gaming is popular, how the game, when the game is, and even why there is such an explosive interest in gaming in North America.

While the following information is specific to North America, you can assume the numbers are similar in the UK and throughout Europe. With that said, let’s look at a few of those surprising facts.

1. There Are More Adult Gamers Than Children

At first, this was a bit difficult to believe. After all, most adults work a full-time job and often don’t have as much free time on their hands.

However, that’s if you limit gaming to video games such as those for PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox.

Adult Gamers

There is another whole niche within the gaming industry and that would be online games like poker, roulette, and other popular casino games. With so many online casinos out there, it really isn’t surprising that there are more adult gamers than children in the United States and Canada.

2. Gaming on Mobile Devices More Popular Than on PCs and Consoles

This was another ‘fact’ that was hard to digest at first until it became evident that there is a very good reason for the rise in mobile gaming popularity.

Not only can you find amazing prices on a gaming Nvidia Laptop, for example, but people have become more mobile once again.

Gaming On Mobile

For the previous two years, a global pandemic kept the majority of people at home so they simply played on their gaming consoles or PCs.

Now, with more people taking public transport to and from work, especially in big cities like New York, Chicago, Seattle, and LA, they are pulling out their mobile devices to play a game or two while traveling.

3. Number of US Gamers Breaking Records

According to one website that gathers and analyses statistical data, the rise in gaming throughout the United States is literally mind-boggling.

They have published a five-year forecast for the number of gamers each year from 2021 through 2025.

US Gamers

Starting with 2021, which is over, and moving on through the years until 2025, gamers will number:

  • 2021 – 177.7 million
  • 2022 – 179.6 million
  • 2023 – 181.3 million
  • 2024 – 183.5 million
  • 2025 – 185.5 million

That’s an increase of over 8 million gamers within five years if their forecast is realized. Once again, it is important to remember that gaming began exploding during the pandemic when there was little else to do.

Now, people love their games, and the trend is probably going to continue, much as it has over the past couple of years.

4. Esports Viewership Exploding

Here again, this shift in attending sporting games came about as a result of the pandemic, for the most part.

During the height of Covid-19, even outdoor sporting events were canceled to try to mitigate the spread of this deadly virus.

Sports Games

However, as games resumed, sports fans found that it really was more comfortable to view and place bets on their favorite sports from the comfort of home. With such a huge increase in online eSports viewership numbers, you can expect revenue to increase proportionately as well.

5. Video Gaming Revenue Forecast for 2022

It seems like the pandemic is responsible for yet another trend going forward throughout 2022 and beyond. According to Insider Intelligence, the website mentioned above, sales of gaming consoles are set to rise as well as those of mobile devices mentioned above.

They cite Nintendo as reporting a 73.3% increase in profits year-on-year from 2020 to 2021. This was a combined figure from their gaming systems and cloud gaming revenues.

Gaming Revenue

Referring back to those gaming laptops and then mobile gaming devices like Nintendo Switch, the revenue growth for that same period from 2020 to 2021 was over USD 1 billion. Let that sink in for just a moment. Revenue grew by over a billion dollars!

Revenue From Gaming Apps

All of the above figures don’t take into consideration the amount of revenue that will be realized from the ‘sale’ of mobile gaming apps. While some of the apps are free to download and install, many have in-app ads that generate a huge amount of revenue as well.

This site projects that the total revenue for 2022 will come from the money made from hyper-casual apps such as those to be used on laptops, smartphones, and other mobile gaming devices.

In fact, they go on to project that mobile gaming apps will generate more than $1 billion in 2022 alone.

At the end of the day, the reality is that there are more adult gamers than children in North America, and probably the rest of the world as well. This is because online gaming casinos have taken a foothold in the industry and are realizing amazing profits.

Now adults can make a wager, revise a wager or even collect the win online. If you still have any doubts as to why gaming is more popular among adults than children, this is probably the number one reason.
