Sauces and Dips

Some days dinner turns out great; other days, it is just… fine. Maybe the pasta needs something extra, or yesterday’s sandwich feels a little boring the second time around. This is why having a few sauces and spreads at home can definitely make your daily meals more exciting.

When Simple Food Needs A Little Something

Some things do not require a recipe at all. For example, you can combine your toast with a little bit of cheese, some chopped vegetables and a bit of garlic mayonnaise. You can mix last night’s rice in a bowl with some chilli sauce and fried eggs on top. Even some crackers become far more tastier if there is something to dip them into.

This is also why everyday groceries are worth looking at differently. Bread, pasta, cheese, vegetables and snacks are just basic things, but they have their ways of surprising you if you keep different flavours of sauces in your refrigerator.

Give Pasta A Fresh Start

Pasta is one of those easy meals to cook when you don’t want to give dinner too much thought. You simply boil the pasta, have a quick look in your fridge and throw in whatever you find.

There’s nothing wrong with keeping it simple. A touch of cheese and a heaping helping of sauce can turn an ordinary bowl of pasta into something worthy to sit down and enjoy.

Dips Can Rescue Snack Time

A packet of crisps is good on its own, but put a dip beside it and somehow everyone wants another handful. The same holds true for toast, crackers, and veggies.

Just a bit of garlic mayo is simply delicious on just about anything from boiled potatoes to sandwich fillings, while chilli oil gives a nice kick to everything they’re added to. Meanwhile, a simple tomato dip can be used for just about anything. Not to mention, some sauces in the fridge can be useful in case of those random cravings that tend to appear out of nowhere sometimes.

Choose Ingredients That Earn Their Place

When buying groceries, it is better to choose those that will be used most frequently. A jar of pickles for making sandwiches, salads, and snacks will be useful to you often, as compared to something that will be used only once for a particular recipe.

The same goes for spreads. A fruit preserve can start with breakfast and end up in a simple dessert. Chilli paste can be added to noodles or paired with fried snacks. Mayonnaise can be turned into sandwich fillings, salad dressings or even a dip with some additional ingredients.

It is a much easier way to shop, especially when your cupboards are packed with jars that have been opened and half used.

A Few Good Flavours Can Go A Long Way

A different dip can make leftover snacks feel new. A spoonful of sauce can give yesterday’s pasta another chance. With the right spreads, even a simple sandwich can become a snack to look forward to.

With some sensible shopping of groceries and a little bit of exploration of sauces and spreads, you can add flavour to your meals without making the process complicated.
