Roberta Metsola, the President of the EU Parliament, expressed her condemnation of the recent acts of terror and murder, calling for the immediate release of hostages. October 7th was declared a day that would “go down in global infamy.” The EU leaders, including the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission, stood together to express their unwavering solidarity with the victims and their families.

French government spokesperson Olivier Veran emphasized the importance of avoiding an escalation of the conflict in the Middle East while safeguarding the civilian population. France has also taken steps to prevent the importation of the conflict by addressing the rise in anti-Semitic acts, which has reportedly seen fifty incidents since the weekend.

In addition to these sentiments, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey called on the United States and European nations to adopt a balanced approach to the conflict. Erdogan accused Israel of conducting “not a war but a massacre” with disproportionate attacks on Gaza, which he asserted lacked a moral basis. He expressed concern that these actions could lead to an unfavorable global public opinion of Israel.

The unified response from European leaders sends a clear message of condemnation and solidarity with the victims and their families in the wake of the tragic Hamas attack. The call for the immediate release of hostages and the commitment to pursuing a political solution reflect the region’s aspirations for lasting peace and an end to the violence and terror that has afflicted the Middle East.
