EU Leaders Gather to Condemn Hamas Attack in Israel.
The heads of the European Union’s three main institutions came together outside the European Parliament in Brussels to observe a minute’s silence in remembrance of the victims of the recent Hamas attack in Israel. Roberta Metsola, the President of the EU Parliament, expressed her condemnation of the recent acts of terror and murder, calling for the immediate release of hostages. French government spokesperson Olivier Veran emphasized the importance of avoiding an escalation of the conflict in the Middle East while safeguarding the civilian population. In addition to these sentiments, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey called on the United States and European nations to adopt a balanced approach to the conflict. Erdogan accused Israel of conducting “not a war but a massacre” with disproportionate attacks on Gaza, which he asserted lacked a moral basis. He expressed concern that these actions could lead to an unfavorable global public opinion of Israel.
