The latest reports by UNHCR show a rising number of 800 Darfur civilians killed by armed groups in Ardamata. This region lies in the West Darfur region. Those who managed to escape the Darfur borders are now arriving in bulk in the neighboring Chad.

As of now, the UNHCR were able to record 8000 refugees who were able to flee alone. However, the number could be an underestimation since it is getting difficult for the UN to track how many are still crossing the borders.

After the conflict in Sudan rages, UN refugee officials are standing at the Chad border to register all the new arrivals. This also includes preparing for camp shelters for the displaced families. However, cases of excessive looting from the Chad areas, including the Refugee relief fund, have lately been reported.

The unfortunate who couldn’t escape remain the subjects of extreme horror in terms of extortion of civilians, sexual assault on women and children, and torture, including arbitrary killing. The target of these ethnic groups of the west Darfur region is deeply unsatisfying and has been alarming the UN government.

“Two decades ago, the global community was horrified by the horrific atrocities and violations of human rights in Darfur. We are concerned that a comparable situation may be emerging. It is imperative to cease hostilities immediately and ensure the unconditional protection of civilians by all involved parties to prevent another humanitarian catastrophe,” stated Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees at UNHCR. Every credible news outlet is showing concern about how Sudan is almost on the brink of collapse. The cause is these two rival countries who weren’t able to manage the fight for rich resources from this North African country. Volatility and tension are on the rise, especially at the borders, and the condition of Darfur tribes is the worst example of this scenario.
