Ohio Votes In Favor Of Abortion Rights
The latest Ohio abortion law poses to be a winged victory for abortion rights. Upon approving a ballot measure that amends the state constitution to approve abortion rights. This was a citizen-led initiative to protect a woman’s access to abortion. During the Supreme Court reversal of Roe.v Wade, Ohio was able to add momentum behind the efforts.
This ballot measure was by far the country’s most anticipated race during off-year elections. Parties waited to see whether the loss of abortion rights would help Democrats win the election in the next presidential year.
However, this achievement from a conservative state is giving hope to many others fighting for the same rights. Some of the other states aggrieved with the federal loss of rights are Missouri, Arizona, South Dakota, and Florida.
The Off-Time Election Reaction
“It is never a concern of the government what we do with our bodies.” A woman from Cincinnati commented. This independent voter who lives in the outskirts of Cincinnati says it’s for a woman to decide their experience.
Even women who don’t vote in off-season elections are taking action for the cause. “I have a teenage daughter, and I wouldn’t want her or my rights to be taken away from us.” Said Wendy Pace, a 52-year-old independent voter. (Source)
She also added this would be the beginning of federal rights being taken away, and she fears what her daughter’s democratic future would look like.
Women all over Ohio have requested voters to participate in this off-season ballot election. The passing of this Ohio abortion law will set up a new precedent for abortion rights in the country going forward.
Many trust that this will help eradicate certain challenges that women are facing due to the abolishment of abortion rights. Including crossing international borders and traveling to Mexico in order to get an abortion.
