Human Rights Spokesperson Seif Mangango Concerned About Middle Gaza Bombardment

Recently, during a major round of fighting, the Israeli Air Force conducted more than 50 strikes in Middle Gaza between December 24 and December. The three refugee camps attacked were Al Bureij, Al-Nuseirat, and Al-Maghazi. The worst blow of all: Seven residential areas in Al-Maghazi camp were hit, with an estimated 86 Palestinian casualties and many more injuries.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) says that the combined casualty toll at Al-Bureij and Al-Maghazi camps has reached at least 131, fueling an already runaway disaster against human history. Destroyed roads hamper the delivery of relief aid, while shelters are overcrowded and hospitals under-resourced. Under conditions of increasing tension in Middle Gaza after the forced removal of residents from south Wadi Gaza,

the international community is calling on all parties to abide by humanitarian law. Special attention must be given to protecting civilians and their lives and property. The situation is still serious, with Israeli forces bombarding targets in the area intensely now. One especially worrying aspect is concern for those living there and their well-being given this level of attack from above.

How It Is Impacting The Current Human Rights

Its impact on the current human rights situation is more than deeply distressing, for many civilian casualties are being caused by these strikes, which blatantly violate international law incorporating principles of proportionality and precaution in attack.

The forced migration of residents makes the problem even more serious. This is a genuinely heartrending situation for those involved.

This points to the importance of obeying humanitarian law. The international community is seriously concerned for those people caught in the middle. These described events also provoke serious questions about respect for human life amid the war, thus making international efforts ever more critical to addressing and resolving this rapidly deteriorating crisis.
